Level 3 Theatrical Media Make-up
This course is designed for those people interested in a professional career in Media Make-Up in the studio or theatrical environment.
You will gain a qualification Diploma in Theatrical, Special effects and hair and media make up.
Possible progression options include:
- Specialist Hair and Media Make-up BA (Hons) / FdA
- Postgraduate Degree in Effects Make-up and Hair Design
- Foundation Degree (FD) Media Make-up
- Special Effects Make-up and Hair Design
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC).
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a professional theatrical media make-up artist, learners may choose to further develop their skills base by undertaking advanced specialist qualifications at Level 4, these include:
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Salon Management(QCF)
- VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management (QCF)
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Specialist Hair and Scalp Services (QCF)
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Hair Colour Correction (QCF)
- VTCT Level 4 Award in Advanced Hair Styling (QCF)
- VTCT Level 4 Award in Advanced Hair Styling (QCF)
Course Content
Topics Covered
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector.
- Create and cast small prosthetic pieces bald cap.
- Media Make
- Apply prosthetics
- Airbrush
- Camouflage Make Up
Practicals
Summative Observations are related to all units/topics covered. You will be supervised by technical staff and assessed on your occupational competence.
Exams
The external paper will test your knowledge of all unit / topics knowledge criteria. A pass mark of 70% must be achieved.
Entry Requirements
- A Level 2 qualification in Hair & Media Make-Up, or another relevant qualification.
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (or level 2 Merit equivalency for example BTEC), must include English and Maths
