Overview

Level 2 Business

The Level 2 Award  in Business is a one year course designed to introduce learners to the essentials of business concepts and practices. Our delivery of the course is specifically designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of business topics whilst also developing the skills that employers are really looking for, such as literacy, numeracy, communication skills, analysis, interpretation, application and the evaluation of information.

The Level 2 Award in Business provides a comprehensive introduction to fundamental business concepts and practices. Students explore the business environment, learning about different business structures and the influence of stakeholders and external factors. They also gain insight into key business functions such as marketing, finance, human resources, and operations management, understanding how these functions contribute to overall business success. The course covers basic customer service principles and communication techniques essential for effective business operations. By the end of the program, learners are equipped with foundational knowledge in business that prepares them for entry-level positions or further studies in business-related fields.

You will also engage with a range of employers. Recently our students have visited the London offices of multinational business organisations such as Ernst and Young, KPMG, NatWest, and Lloyds Bank.

Throughout the course you will be supported by a dedicated tutor and will receive regular progress reviews, along with full and regular feedback from the course team. Feedback will be verbal, written and electronic, with each being specifically designed to support your development and progress.

Course Content

The units we plan to deliver in the 2019/20 academic year are shown below. However, if students show ambition to follow a particular career path, for example finance and accounting, we will look to deliver a selection of units more specifically tailored to that career path.

  • Unit 1: Enterprise in the Business World
  • Unit 2: Finance for Business
  • Unit 3: Promoting a Brand
  • Unit 4: Customer Service
  • Unit 8: Recruitment, Selection and Employment
  • Unit 9: Principles of Marketing
  • Unit 14: Business Online

The course is assessed using a combination of coursework and examinations. Units 2 and 9 are externally set examinations. All other units are assessed via coursework assignments that include practical activities.

  • The BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business study programme also allows students the opportunity to retake their GCSEs in English and Maths in order to achieve a minimum of a grade 4 (essential for progression to higher levels of study and the workplace).

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business are four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above. BTEC grades are also considered within this calculation.
