Development & Access Courses

Do you want to follow a vocational course such as Hospitality and Catering, Art, Construction, ICT or Hair and Beauty? Do you have a high level of support needs and want to develop your confidence and team work skills? Do you want to makes choices, work hard, achieve and have fun? If so, one of our Development and Access courses could be the course for you!

Course Content

These courses have sessions for you to improve your English, Maths, ICT skills and PSHE/Tutorial skills and focus on understanding work skills and the community around you. You will also follow your main vocational option of Hair and Beauty, Catering, Art, Construction or ICT for a full day each week.

You can also choose two smaller options from Drama, Horticulture/Gardening, Arts and Crafts, Media  Sports, Photography, Manufacturing, ICT, Catering, Music and Independent Living Skills. 

The Development course is mostly at Entry Level 2 with students developing their confidence in a range of situations relating to the world of work and independent adult life.

Our Access Courses are largely at Entry Level 3 with opportunities for level 1 units. These courses are strong on the skills needed for the world of work and higher level vocational courses.

All students work towards passing qualifications in Work Skills, Personal and Social Skills and English and maths qualifications appropriate to each student.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants will need to have an Education, Health and Care Plan (formally a statement of support needs) or other High Needs approval by their local authority, and be working below GCSE level.

Careers

Entry level courses at Shooters Hill will help you to develop the skills and confidence to find employment and live more independently. After the first year you can progress within these courses for a further year or move onto a higher level course at Shooters Hill or elsewhere, into a supported internship or into employment.
