Course Information
Overview
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies provides a strong foundation in beauty therapy, combining practical experience with industry-relevant knowledge. You will develop the skills, confidence and professional behaviours needed to work within the beauty industry while gaining experience in realistic salon environments.
You will learn a wide range of beauty therapy treatments, including facial skincare, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, manicures and pedicures. The course also develops your communication, client care and professional salon skills, preparing you for progression to Level 3 Beauty Therapy, apprenticeships or employment within the industry.
What you'll learn
Throughout the course, you will develop:
- Practical beauty therapy skills, including facials, waxing, lash and brow treatments, manicures, pedicures, make-up application, tanning and eyelash lifting.
- An understanding of health and safety practices within a professional salon environment.
- Client consultation, communication and customer care skills.
- The ability to select appropriate products and techniques to meet individual client needs.
- Creative skills, including nail art and make-up application.
- Professional behaviours, including salon reception duties, retail awareness and maintaining industry standards.
- Knowledge of salon operations and professional working practices.
Units you will study
Your programme may include units such as:
- Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon – learn how to maintain a safe, hygienic and professional working environment.
- Provide Facial Skincare – develop skills in consultation, skin analysis, cleansing, exfoliation, massage, mask application and aftercare.
- Provide Eyelash and Brow Treatments – develop salon-ready skills in lash and brow treatments, client care and professional treatment techniques.
- Provide Eyelash Lifting – develop specialist skills in eyelash lifting treatments.
- Apply Skin Tanning Techniques – learn professional tanning application methods.
- Instruction on Make-up Application – build practical make-up application techniques and product knowledge.

You will also develop the knowledge and understanding needed to carry out beauty services safely, effectively and professionally.
Entry requirements
- 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English or Maths.
- A strong interest in Beauty Therapy and the wider hair and beauty industry.
- A willingness to participate in practical sessions, group work and independent study.
- A commitment to developing professional salon skills, confidence and excellent client care.
How you'll be assessed
Assessment is designed to reflect real industry practice and allows you to demonstrate both practical skills and underpinning knowledge.
- Coursework and written assignments, including projects, case studies and written activities.
- Practical assessments observed by your assessor while carrying out beauty treatments.
- Presentations, demonstrations and professional discussions.
- A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your knowledge, understanding and practical skills.
Your portfolio may include observed work, assignments, photographs, witness statements, written and oral questions, case studies and evidence of prior learning. Evidence is cross-referenced to the relevant VTCT assessment requirements throughout the course.
