At SHC, we believe that meaningful engagement with employers is a vital part of preparing students for their future careers. We work with a wide network of local employers, universities, community partners and voluntary organisations to bring the world of work to life.

Throughout your time at SHC, you'll have opportunities to meet employers, hear from industry professionals, attend careers events, gain valuable workplace experience and explore a wide range of progression pathways to help shape your future.

As part of our commitment to developing work-ready, confident and informed young people, every student will benefit from at least five days of meaningful encounters with employers during their time at college. These experiences help students explore career options, develop professional skills, build networks and gain valuable insight into the world of work.

Employer encounters may include:

  • Work experience and placements
  • Industry guest speakers and workshops
  • Employer-led projects and challenges
  • Careers fairs and networking events
  • Workplace visits and industry insight days
  • Mock interviews and employability activities
  • Mentoring opportunities

For many vocational programmes, students will also undertake substantial work experience or industry placements as part of their course. This is particularly important for programmes such as T Levels, where industry placements are a mandatory element of study and provide students with extended experience in a professional working environment.
