Parents, carers and supporters

Parents, carers and supporters play an important role in helping young people make informed decisions about their future.

We encourage families to be actively involved in conversations about progression, careers and next steps throughout a student's time at SHC.

Our Futures Team works in partnership with students and their support networks to help explore options, raise aspirations and build confidence. Whether a student is considering further study, an apprenticeship, employment or another pathway, we recognise the valuable insight, encouragement and guidance that parents and carers can provide.

We also welcome support from our wider parent and carer community. Many of our employer encounters, careers events and industry activities are enriched by individuals who are willing to share their experiences, offer workplace insights or help connect students with opportunities.

You can support The Future You by:

  • Encouraging your young person to engage with careers activities and guidance sessions
  • Discussing progression options and future aspirations at home
  • Attending college events where appropriate
  • Sharing your professional experience or career journey
  • Offering insights into your industry or sector
  • Connecting us with employers, organisations or professional networks
  • Supporting work experience, industry placements or employer engagement opportunities
  • Providing feedback on our careers programme and student experiences
  • Helping us understand what is working well and where we can further improve our support for students
