This Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) is equivalent to 1 A-Level, and is designed for learners aged 16-19 who want to combine academic study with applied scientific knowledge in sport and exercise. It provides a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics, nutrition, and sports injury rehabilitation - ideal for progression to higher education and careers in sports science.

There are five mandatory units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Psychology in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Biomechanics
  • Nutrition in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Applied Science in Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation

Assessment

  • Exams: 40%
  • Coursework: 60%
