Equality, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We believe inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.
Every staff member, in every team, plays a vital role in creating a respectful, equitable and welcoming environment for all students. Equality, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (EDEI) is not the job of one department, it’s the work of the entire college community.
HOW WE PROMOTE INCLUSION & RESPECT
We embed EDEI values into college life, from lessons and leadership to lunchtime spaces and language. Through everyday actions, inclusive teaching, and open conversations, our whole college community contributes to a culture where difference is not just respected but celebrated.
SUPPORT FOR MARGINALISED & UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS
We offer a wide range of enrichment activities to support and celebrate our diverse student community. This includes clubs like the Blossom Club for LGBTQ+ students, as well as opportunities to create new clubs based on student interest.
All students are encouraged to attend the Enrichment Fair to find out more and get involved. Students from all backgrounds, including those from minoritised ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ identities, neurodivergent or disabled individuals, care-experienced students, and those facing barriers related to race, gender, class, faith, or identity, can access inclusive support, safe spaces, and understanding from staff trained in inclusive practice.
In addition, we will run EDEI drop-in sessions throughout the year as open spaces for listening, support, and idea-sharing. Dates for these sessions will be shared in the new term.
EVENTS & CAMPAIGNS
We run a rich calendar of events each year, co-led with students and supported by staff across departments.
Some of the events we have celebrated are:
- Black History Month
- Pride & LGBTQIA+ Awareness
- International Women’s & Men’s Days
- Neurodiversity Celebration
- Ramadan Reflections
- Cultural Heritage Weeks
These events are only possible through whole-staff collaboration and student voice.
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT
Our Student EDEI Champions are a growing group of passionate young leaders who:
- Co-design and run events
- Receive training to advocate for equity and mental health
- Represent the student body in local and national spaces (including Parliament)
- Promote allyship, inclusion, and peer support
REPORTING DISCRIMINATION OR BULLYING
All staff share responsibility for challenging discrimination and upholding our values.
We take all reports seriously and ensure they are handled with care, confidentiality, and a commitment to positive resolution.
EMBEDDING EDEI INTO LEARNING & PRACTICE
We are committed to embedding EDEI into all aspects of college life. This includes delivering staff training on topics such as unconscious bias, intersectionality, and dignity at work; developing an inclusive curriculum that reflects the diversity of our community; and leading collaborative EDEI projects that engage both staff and students. These efforts ensure that inclusion is actively reflected in our classrooms, staffrooms, and beyond.
Support is available through key contacts, as well as the Safeguarding and Wellbeing Teams who offer emotional and safety support.
Accessibility and BSL support are available across the college, and our EDEI Policy, which outlines our commitments and procedures.
