Overview

Level 1 Diploma Art and Design

This course is designed for those people interested in entering a career in the art & design industry such as: graphic design, 3D design & crafts, fine art, photography, textile and surface design etc. However, it will also act as an excellent introductory programme for those who are unsure about which art & design specialisation they wish to follow.

Course Content

Topics covered

This course is an introduction to art and design, where you will learn the basic skills and formal elements, learn how to competently produce and communicate through visual art. You will be stretched and challenged to engage in peer and self reflection throughout this course.

The course structure is made up of several units, which are all internally assessed.

Here are some examples of the units within offered within the Art and Design programme:

  • A project in 2 or 3 Dimensions
  • Explore Printmaking
  • Explore 3D Design
  • Planning and running an Enterprise Activity
  • A Personal Project

  • Working with a gallery
  • A&D Competitions
  • Creative related work placements
  • Real client briefs
  • Working in a school as an art technician

Requirements

It is a requirement that you must have studied, or can show an interest (by producing a portfolio of art work), in Art & Design before taking a Level 1 qualification.

At Level 1 students should have a range of GCSEs at grade 1/2. Entry onto the course will be heavily dependant on a successful interview. 

Careers

Due to the nature of the Level 1 in Art & Design, this course is an ideal feeder programme for progression onto the Level 2 Art and Design.
