Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up

This course is designed for those people interested in a professional career in Media Make-Up.

Upon completion of the course, you may progress onto the Level 3 Theatrical Media Make-Up here at the Shooters Hill College.

Career opportunities as a junior hair and makeup artist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

  • Commercial hair and beauty salons
  • Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
  • Product manufacturing and training

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior hair and make-up artist, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking Technical Level qualifications at Level 3, including:

  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Make-Up (QCF)
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF)
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up (QCF)
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-Up Studies (QCF)

Course Content

Topics Covered

  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • The art of dressing Hair Shaping and colouring eyebrows
  • Apply Make Up
  • Instruction on make-up application
  • Provide nail art
  • Themed Face Painting

Practicals

Summative Observations are related to all units/topics covered. You will be supervised by technical staff and assessed on your occupational competence

Exams

The external paper will test your knowledge of all unit/topics criteria. A pass mark of 70% must be achieved.

Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade D and above including Maths & English at Grade 4 or above.

Students with Grade 4 in English and Maths will be required to re-take these subjects alongside their main programme

Alternatives/ equivalent - BTEC Entry 3 / Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Hair and Beauty or Level 1 H&B and grade 4 in Maths and English.
