Student Absence

Important message for parents and carers

We have contacted you by text message today because your son/daughters attendance during this first term is below 80%. This is well short of the 95% attendance requirement at Shooters Hill College and puts your son/daughters college place at serious risk.

Before 12 October 2022, based on attendance, punctuality and behaviour data, teachers and managers will be making decisions about which students should continue at the College and which students should be withdrawn.

For students with the lowest attendance and punctuality rates, we will be contacting parent/carers directly to request a formal meeting with you to discuss what needs to happen for your young person to be able to continue at College.

For every parent contacted today, what you can do right now is to talk to your son/daughter about their attendance, punctuality and behaviour and encourage them to attend on-time, every timetabled session for the foreseeable future so that they can secure their continued place at this college.

We would encourage every parent/carer to access our on-line progress tracking platform called Parent Portal where you can see your son/daughters attendance and punctuality rates. The guidance document can be found here -

For clarity, if a teaching session does not run for whatever reason, the session is counted as neutral, meaning that students are not marked either present or absent, so these sessions do not impact on attendance rates.

We want all of our students to be successful and achieve with us, but they can only do this if they attend all timetabled sessions and are on time, every time.

If your son/daughter needs any support from our staff in achieving these aims then please email the college absence line  student.absence@shc.ac.uk and your email will be directed to the appropriate member of staff.
