Overview

A-Level Media Studies

This course is beneficial for students who are interested in developing an understanding of the media and its role within society. If you're considering it, you should be a keen consumer of a wide variety of media texts, including feature films, documentaries, newspapers, magazines and a range of digital media.

The Media A-Level has specific links with many other Arts and Humanities based subjects such as Drama and English Literature, as well as subjects such as Law, Psychology, Business Studies and Sociology. This is primarily due to the fact that the course provides the opportunity for independent critical thinking and analysis and is instrumental in developing individual
autonomy. This course provides an excellent foundation from the fundamentals, to skills in more sophisticated analysis, which would allow for further study on media-related courses at university level. The practical element of the course ensures provision of skills in desktop publishing, photography, lighting and a strong understanding in the construction of texts, introducing you to the skills and techniques required to work professionally within the media industry.
