Overview
BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate Applied Science
The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is a practical, work-related course.
You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related
qualification.
The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is equivalent to three GCSEs Grades 8—4 and is normally taken as a full-time course.
Students who successfully complete the course may progress on to the BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science, or if you achieve top grades you may study a BTEC Certificate in Applied Science with some A levels.

Practicals
Many of the units that you will study are based on practical experiments. You will get the opportunity to carry out experiments in all 3 sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Exams
You are required to sit 2 exams for Unit 1: Principles of Science and Unit 8: Scientific Skills . The remainder of the course is assessed by the completion of assignments that are set and marked by your teachers.
Careers
This course can be used as a springboard to launch your science career and can lead to access to further Science qualifications and lead ultimately to careers within any of the science fields.
You may wish to pursue a career working in a laboratory, bio-medical field or any science based industry.
This study programme will equip you with the necessary skills in English, maths and science that will help you succeed.
